World's largest car carrier delivered in Guangzhou
The world's first pure car and truck carrier (PCTC) with a capacity exceeding 10,000 parking spaces was delivered in Guangzhou of Guangdong province, on Tuesday (April 28).
The vessel is the first of its kind capable of transporting a maximum of 10,800 cars. Dual powered by liquefied natural gas (LNG) and conventional fuel, the ship is currently the largest PCTC by capacity and is equipped with the most advanced technologies.
Named Glovis Leader, the ship was tailored for South Korean shipping company HMM in terms of design, research and development by Shanghai Merchant Ship Design and Research Institute (SDARI), and built by Guangzhou Shipyard International Co Ltd. Both organizations are subsidiaries of the China State Shipbuilding Corp (CSSC).
With a length of 230 meters, a width of 40 meters, and a height of about 48 meters, the jumbo ship is equivalent in size to a 16-story building. It boasts excellent fuel efficiency and meets the fast turnover demands of the modern automotive supply chain, striking a balance between capacity, operational efficiency and performance.
