The top 10 frontier questions in positioning, navigation and timing (PNT) were unveiled at a forum held in Beijing on Friday, with the aim of guiding the future development of the discipline. The selected frontiers highlight a deep integration between satellite navigation and emerging technologies such as artificial intelligence and quantum sensing.

Focusing on core themes including spatiotemporal intelligence, quantum technology, and information and communication, the questions address crucial application scenarios such as embodied intelligence, unmanned systems, intelligent transportation, deep-space exploration and commercial aerospace.

PNT is an emerging interdisciplinary field that brings together expertise from electronic science, sensing and measurement, information and communication, and computer technology. The advancement of PNT is crucial not only for maintaining stability in our daily lives but also for ensuring a nation's spatiotemporal information security and capacity for technological self-reliance.

To further strengthen China's scientific and technological foundation in this field, the journal Satellite Navigation has, for the first time this year, unveiled 10 forward-looking, strategic, and practical frontier questions. This initiative has attracted significant attention from experts in the field.
