"When I came here at seven or eight, I liked the train," said Maimaiti Simayi, a steam locomotive crew member in China's Xinjiang. For decades, he and his colleagues have started work before dawn, keeping the Sandaoling coal line running. As the mine closes, the locomotive will retire, and so will he. Yet like Simayi 30 years ago, today's youth will witness and create their own era of glory.
