BEIJING -- Chen Binhua, a spokesperson for China's State Council Taiwan Affairs Office, stressed on Friday that Japan and its current leader are in no position to make irresponsible remarks on the Taiwan question, let alone issue threats and attempt to obstruct China's cause of reunification.

Reiterating that Taiwan is sacred territory of China, the Taiwan question is China's internal affair, and resolving the Taiwan question and achieving China's complete reunification are a shared aspiration of the more than 1.4 billion Chinese people, Chen emphasized that how to resolve the Taiwan question is entirely a matter at the Chinese people's own discretion and brooks no interference by any external force.

Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi recently said that the Chinese mainland's "use of force on Taiwan" could constitute a "survival-threatening situation" for Japan. Her remarks imply the possibility of armed intervention in the Taiwan Strait. Despite China's serious démarches and protests, Takaichi still refused to change course and take back what she had said.

Japan had committed crimes against the Chinese people regarding the Taiwan question, Chen said, referring to Japan's brutal colonial rule on the island for half a century.

The spokesperson said Takaichi's unjustified remarks reflect attempts to interfere in cross-Strait affairs, deny China's victory in the Chinese People's War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression, and challenge the post-WWII international order.

"The Chinese government and Chinese people will never accept, tolerate, or condone this," Chen said, warning that Japan must immediately correct its wrongdoing and retract the remarks or face all resulting consequences.

The spokesperson also warned Japan of a "crushing defeat" should it dare to use force to interfere in the Taiwan question.?
