Compatriots from both sides of the Taiwan Strait gathered in Beijing on Sunday to mark the establishment of the Commemoration Day of Taiwan's Restoration.

Hosted by the All-China Federation of Taiwan Compatriots, the event featured lectures on the history of Taiwan's restoration, personal experience sharing, and a gala celebration.

Coinciding with the 80th anniversary of Taiwan's return to China, the attendees reaffirmed that Taiwan is an inseparable part of China, condemning claims of an "undetermined status of Taiwan" and opposing any external interference in the Taiwan Strait.

Ji Bin, vice-chairman of the federation, said, "We welcome the decision by the Standing Committee of the 14th National People's Congress, made in accordance with the Constitution, to formally designate Oct 25 as the Commemoration Day of Taiwan's Restoration."

Ji emphasized that, regardless of how the Democratic Progressive Party authorities distort the history of the Chinese People's War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression (1931–1945), the historical and legal fact that Taiwan is part of China remains unshakable.

Wang Shushen, deputy director of the Institute of Taiwan Studies at the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, highlighted the irrefutable legal basis for Taiwan's restoration and cautioned against the fallacy of an "undetermined status of Taiwan". He noted that establishing the commemoration day at the national level demonstrates the mainland's active commitment to promoting cross-Strait relations and maintaining stability in the region.

"Through this measure, China is also signaling to the international community its firm opposition to any separatist activities targeting Taiwan," Wang added.

Wu Jung-yuan, chairperson of Taiwan's Labor Party, observed a significant shift in Taiwan society. "An increasing number of people are expressing strong dissatisfaction with the DPP authorities for pursuing an 'anti-mainland' agenda, acting as pawns of external forces, and neglecting the well-being of the people," Wu said.

Chang Li-chi, an associate researcher at the Institute of Taiwan Studies at Huaqiao University in Fujian province, stressed, "The history of Taiwan's restoration demonstrates that Taiwan has always been an inseparable part of China. Our generation of Taiwan compatriots must ensure that Taiwan is never separated from the motherland again."

Representing Taiwan youth on the mainland, Chiu Ping-ju, currently studying at Peking University, called for concrete actions by young people to promote integrated development across the Strait and foster mutual understanding, unity, and cooperation among compatriots on both sides.
