KATHMANDU -- A group of Chinese Tibetologists on Tuesday held a symposium in the capital of Nepal to elaborate on the all-round development and historical achievements made in China's Xizang autonomous region.

They highlighted the development and achievements made since the establishment of the autonomous region 60 years ago, the establishment of the system of lot-drawing from the golden urn and its doctrinal and legal basis for the reincarnation system of Tibetan Buddhism, and the development of women in Xizang in all aspects and the freedom of religious belief in Xizang in the new era.

The researchers are from the China Tibetology Research Center, the Xizang Autonomous Region Culture Association, the Xizang Academy of Social Sciences and the Human Rights Institute under Southwest University of Political Science & Law.

They noted that Xizang has achieved high-quality economic development, with 628,000 registered poor people and 74 poverty-stricken counties and districts in the region having been lifted out of poverty.

The autonomous region was the first in China to establish a 15-year publicly-funded education system from kindergarten, elementary school, middle school to high school, they added.

In Xizang, the freedom of religious belief in the new era is guaranteed by the Constitution and laws, the religious venues and activities are under protection, and the Tibetan Buddhism culture is being inherited and protected, they said.

In addition, the philosophy and achievements of human rights protection in Xizang was presented to the audience, and the presenter stressed on China's people-centered philosophy of human rights development, and its prioritization of a comprehensive and coordinated development of democratic rights and rights related to people's livelihoods.
