China sees drop in May Day holiday crimes

China saw a decrease in both criminal and public security cases during the May Day holiday compared to the same period last year, according to the Ministry of Public Security.
By 5 pm on Monday, the last day of the holiday, the number of criminal cases dropped by 17.9 percent, while the number of public security cases dropped by 4.9 percent, the ministry said.
An average of more than 500,000 police officers were deployed for daily patrols during the holiday to promote safety. Traffic police officers also handled 134,000 traffic violation cases, such as drunk driving and fatigue driving.
