Samsung Electronics Co Ltd is doubling down on the fast-growing artificial intelligence-powered smartphone sector in China, as the South Korean technology enterprise aims to capture a bigger slice of the pie in the world's largest smartphone market.

The company is accelerating its localization efforts in the Chinese market by teaming up with domestic firms to provide AI functions for its handsets.

It has also partnered with China Telecom to roll out satellite communications service, which allows users living in remote areas or having no internet access to make phone calls and send messages by satellite networks.

Samsung Electronics has unveiled its latest flagship smartphones, the Galaxy S25 series, in the Chinese market, with enhanced AI capacities, offering personalized and intelligent AI experience for users.

The handsets come with multimodal AI features that can generate text, images, audio and videos based on given prompts, and enhanced natural language understanding.

Industry insiders said AI capabilities on smartphones will drive upgrades and represent a significant opportunity for both vendors and application developers alike. Shipments of AI-powered smartphones across the globe are expected to rise by 73.1 percent year-on-year in 2025, according to a report from market consultancy IDC.
