International consensus supports one-China principle

The one-China principle is a universal consensus of the international community and a basic norm guiding international relations. China has reiterated this multiple times, warning against attempts to "turn back the wheels of history".

"The overwhelming majority of countries and international and regional organizations have stood with the Chinese government and people to support China's just cause of opposing 'Taiwan independence' and promoting national reunification," Foreign Ministry spokesman Wang Wenbin said.

Wang made the remarks at a regular news conference on Monday, noting that politicians, political parties and other people from many countries that have diplomatic ties with China recently voiced their adherence to the one-China principle.

"There is but one China in the world. Taiwan is an inalienable part of China's territory. The Government of the People's Republic of China is the sole legal government representing the whole of China," Wang emphasized.

Both sides of the Taiwan Strait belong to one China, Wang said, adding that the international community will continue to follow the one-China principle and that China will realize reunification.

These won't be changed "no matter how the political situation in the Taiwan island changes," the spokesman said, adding that "Taiwan independence" is "a dead end".

Wang also commended the Arab states for including their adherence to the one-China principle in a resolution adopted at the 33rd Arab League Summit convened on Thursday.

The move "once again proved that the one-China principle is in line with international justice, and is where global opinion bends," Wang said.

Wang slammed "individual politicians in a minority of countries" for manipulating issues related to Taiwan, saying that attempts to interfere in China's internal affairs and contain China by supporting "Taiwan independence" will fail.

The spokesman also dismissed remarks made by some people in the United States, who claimed that the United Nations General Assembly Resolution 2758 "did not make a determination on the status of Taiwan".

The resolution has made it clear that there is but one China in the world, and that Taiwan is part of China and a non-sovereign entity, Wang said.

Those in the US are challenging China's sovereignty and territorial integrity, as well as the post-war international order by denying the resolution and the one-China principle, which is "very absurd and dangerous", the spokesman said.
