Glorying in bright colors, traditional dances, delicious food and much more, the Tobong'u Lore festival in the sun-drenched northern plains of Kenya puts the culture of Turkana on full display every year.
The venue for the event is celebrated worldwide: where in 1984 a nearly complete fossilized skeleton dating back about 1.5 million years was found, and has come to be known as Turkana Boy.
However, this event celebrates much more than the ancient past, the name Tobong'u Lore meaning welcome home, referring to the reuniting of peoples — who have often been at loggerheads with one another — in a spirit of reconciliation and an appreciation of both cultural oneness and cultural diversity.
