The achievement of moderate prosperity in China is a significant gain not only for the Chinese people but also humanity as a whole, Aslan Abashidze, a member of the UN Committee on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights, said in his speech at the Forum on Global Human Rights Governance.

With China as the home of nearly 20 percent of the world's population, it is a remarkable feat that they have been able to eradicate extreme poverty and attain a level of moderate prosperity, Abashidze said.

Jointly hosted by the Information Office of the State Council, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the China International Development Cooperation Agency, the Forum on Global Human Rights Governance opened in Beijing on Wednesday. The forum is titled "Equality, Cooperation and Development: The 30th Anniversary of the Vienna Declaration and Program of Action and Global Human Rights Governance".
