The spread of corruption has been effectively contained since the 18th National Congress of the Communist Party of China in 2012, said Xiao Pei, a senior anti-graft official, at a news conference on Monday.

Under the high pressure of anti-corruption efforts, about 80,000 officials have voluntarily reported their misconduct to discipline authorities over the past five years, said Xiao, deputy head of the Central Commission for Discipline Inspection of the CPC Central Committee, China's top anti-graft watchdog, and vice-chairman of the National Supervisory Commission.

Among the 74,000 officials suspected of corruption and bribery investigated by discipline authorities in the past 10 years, 48 percent committed their first offense before the 18th CPC National Congress, and 11.1 percent after the 19th CPC National Congress, he said, adding that this shows that corruption has been effectively contained.

Xiao said efforts have also been made to tackle corruption that occurred at people's doorsteps and deal with misdeeds that had a negative impact on people's well-being in the past decade.

Discipline inspection and supervisory organs nationwide have dealt with more than 650,000 cases of corruption and unsatisfactory work in the fields of education, medical care, social security, law enforcement and other areas, according to Xiao.

"People's satisfaction has increased significantly," he said, citing data from public opinion surveys jointly conducted by the CCDI and the National Bureau of Statistics for 10 years.

This year's survey showed that 97.4 percent of the respondents believed that the comprehensive and strict self-governance over the Party is effective, up 22.4 percentage points from that in 2012, he said.

About 99 percent of the respondents believed that the measures taken by the CPC Central Committee to improve work methods and tackle corruption among Party members reflected the Party's spirit of self-reform, he added.
