Life is gradually returning to normal in most Beijing districts after the authorities announced relaxation of pandemic control and prevention measures on Sunday after a 46-daylong intense fight against the virus.

Thanks to the joint efforts of medical staff, community staff, the police, volunteers and residents of Beijing, the pandemic has been controlled before it spiraled out of control. Beijing has brought the virus under control, at least for now, at heavy yet worthwhile costs.

Yet that does not mean one can lower one's guard. Beijing reported six new infections and 16 asymptomatic cases on Saturday, which means the virus could be spreading in a secret way.

That's why the municipality is still carrying out nucleic acid tests for residents, who are now required to show a negative result for a test carried out within 72 hours to enter public places.

While rejoicing at the reopening, it is necessary that residents continue to wear a face mask when going out, wash hands after returning, and get vaccinated if they have not already done so.
