Children get hands-on experience of reptiles, such as a nonpoisonous snake, under the watchful eye of staff members, at a conservation center in Yongning village, Zhuji city, Zhejiang province. WENG XINYANG/XINHUA

Set up by a couple who wanted to protect animals and raise conservation awareness, the center looks after over 40 rare species of reptiles. It has received more than 5,000 visitors since January last year, mostly young people, and it has carried out activities on school campuses to raise public awareness of conservation.
