Under president's leadership, China fulfilled vow to provide world with splendid Olympics

China's commitment to hosting a successful Winter Olympic Games has undeniably turned into a reality as world leaders, athletes and ice and snow sports fans hailed Beijing's efforts to make such a beautiful Olympic dream become true amid the COVID-19 pandemic.

Throughout the process of more than six years of preparation and 16 days of exciting competition, President Xi Jinping played a leading role.

From the bidding for the Games to extensive preparations, he demonstrated personal commitment to ensuring the Games' success, paying numerous visits to the sports venues and offering his encouragement to those involved. He also attended the opening and closing ceremonies of the Games to show his full support for the international sports event.

Under Xi's leadership, China has fulfilled its pledge to deliver a streamlined, safe and splendid Olympics to the world. Beijing 2022 became the Winter Olympics with the most events and gold medals and the biggest viewership, opening up a new era for ice and snow sports globally, the Foreign Ministry has said.

International Olympic Committee President Thomas Bach commended Beijing 2022 as a "truly exceptional" Olympics, saying that "the Olympic spirit could only shine so brightly because the Chinese people set the stage in such an excellent way－and in a safe way."

"The Olympic Villages were outstanding. The venues－magnificent. The organization－extraordinary," Bach said at the Games' closing ceremony.

In today's fragile world where division, conflict and mistrust are on the rise, Beijing 2022 showed the world that it is possible to be fierce rivals while at the same time living peacefully and respectfully together, analysts said.

The Beijing Winter Olympics not only brought warmth and hope to people of all countries who are caught in the chilly winter of the pandemic, but also injected the strength of peace and unity into the volatile world, they said.
