Since the opening ceremony of the Beijing Winter Olympics, the tiger-head hats worn by the placard bearers have caught the eyes of audience and stirred hot discussion.
The ceremony’s styling director Chen Minzheng said in an interview that the director of the event Zhang Yimou kept looking for a kind of Chinese hat that could symbolize China. However, there seems to be a lack of such a cultural symbol in China's clothing culture.
The year 2022 is the Year of the Tiger. Based on Chinese paper-cutting patterns, the designers combined the traditional Chinese tiger-head hat with the hat that goes with formal dress, and selected 14 tiger-head hats from more than 100 design drawings.
