Rules for copyright ownership specified

China's top court has issued a guideline on copyright protection, specifying the rules for claiming copyright ownership of a work. People and unincorporated organizations who sign their names on a work, performance or sound recording shall have copyright ownership or ownership of the rights related to the copyright, according to the guideline issued by the Supreme People's Court. Disputes over authorship should be resolved based on factors including the nature, type and form of a work, it said. The guideline also called for a precise definition of the type of a work according to the Copyright Law and proper handling of new types of cases, such as those involving sports livestreaming and infringement of data protection.

Former Hebei official pleads guilty to graft

Li Qian, former vice-governor of Hebei province, pleaded guilty and expressed remorse while standing trial on Tuesday at the Beijing First Intermediate People's Court on charges of taking bribes. Li took advantage of his various former positions to provide help to companies and individuals in real estate development and construction and project contracting, among others, from 2006 to 2013, according to the indictment. In return, he illegally accepted huge sums of money and gifts worth over 50 million yuan ($7.6 million), it added. The sentence will be announced at a later date.

INNER MONGOLIA

Fugitive's properties to be confiscated

The Hohhot Intermediate People's Court in the Inner Mongolia autonomous region on Tuesday ordered that nine properties, which are highly likely the illegal gains of Bai Jing, a fugitive on the Red Notice list, be confiscated. The court found that Bai made use of his positions of deputy director and later director of the investment business department of Agricultural Bank of China from 2008 to 2011 to manipulate bond transactions with others and transfer State-owned funds to companies under his control, making illegal profits totaling over 200 million yuan ($30.5 million).Bai then used about 160 million yuan to buy real estate in Beijing and Sanya, Hainan province, registered under the names of his relatives. Bai fled to Canada in July 2013 and remains at large.

YUNNAN

Alliance for poverty relief established

An alliance for poverty relief and development along the Belt and Road was set up in Yunnan province on Tuesday to promote the sharing of experience and models. The Alliance of Poverty Reduction and Development was jointly established by 14 international scientific institutions and government organizations in countries and regions including China, Poland and Hungary. With its secretariat based in the city of Lincang, the APRD will focus on common regional challenges and major demands from countries involved in the Belt and Road Initiative regarding poverty reduction and development.
