SICHUAN

6 dead, 5 missing as heavy rain continues

Heavy rain is continuing to wreak havoc in Sichuan province, with tens of thousands of residents evacuated, houses damaged and roads blocked. Beginning on Monday evening, torrential rain in the province has left six people dead and five missing, and has forced more than 40,000 residents to evacuate as of noon on Wednesday, according to the province's flood control and drought relief headquarters. Around 107,000 people had been affected by the rain across the province, with 14 rivers swollen by floodwater, it said. The downpours triggered mudslides in some areas of Sichuan, damaging houses and roads.

XINJIANG

Region boasts over 100 high-rated tourist sites

The number of top-notch national tourist attractions in Xinjiang Uygur autonomous region exceeded 100 this year, ranking it among the top provincial-level hosts for such sites. Xinjiang added one site that was rated 5A, China's highest rating for national tourist attractions, as well as 13 4A sites this year. Currently, the region has 13 5A and 90 4A national tourist attractions, according to Xinjiang's culture and tourism department. The Pamir Tourist Attraction in western Xinjiang has been upgraded to 5A this year.

TIBET

Tibet pilots healthcare, green tourism bases

Tibet autonomous region on Tuesday officially began piloting six healthcare and green tourism bases in its capital city of Lhasa. Tadong village, deemed as "the most beautiful village in Lhasa" and famous for its hot springs, is one of the six bases. In addition, another hot spring resort in Yangbajain, a Tibetan medicated bath center and three other eco-tourism destinations, have been included in the pilot program. Since 2016, Tadong's healthcare tourism has received more than 1 million tourists generating revenue of over 21 million yuan ($3 million).

BEIJING

50% attendance permitted in theaters

China's Ministry of Culture and Tourism has lifted the attendance limit at theater-like venues from 30 percent to 50 percent. Medium-sized commercial performances with adequate epidemic prevention measures are allowed in COVID-19 low-risk areas, according to the latest guideline issued by the ministry. The guideline prohibits interactive segments in shows and says that commercial performances are still suspended in regions at moderate or high risk of COVID-19.
