I moved to China in 1997, two weeks after graduating from university in the US. I began my teaching career after moving to China.

I have been here so long and seen so many changes. I no longer carry cash. I no longer stand in the rain trying to hail a taxi. I don't need to go out to a restaurant when the weather is inclement. Everything is on my phone, and it is secure. I don’t worry about losing my wallet. In fact, I don't even carry one, just a credit card holder with my apartment card and a few credit cards.

For qualified professionals possessing degrees and experience relevant to their intended fields, I’ve found the process （of getting residency permits and work visas）has been simplified. I am in agreement with this shift towards identifying the types of people you need to contribute to society and easing the process for allowing them to come over, properly vetting their credentials, and empowering them to benefit industries with their expertise.
