No locally transmitted cases of novel coronavirus infections have been reported on the Chinese mainland for three consecutive days as of Tuesday midnight, according to the National Health Commission.

Only two new confirmed cases were reported Tuesday on the Chinese mainland, bringing the number up to 82,883, along with no fatalities, the commission said.

The two infections were imported cases detected in Shaanxi province, bringing the tally of imported ones to 1,678 as of Tuesday midnight, it said.

Of the 1,678 imported cases, 278 patients were still under treatment, including five in severe condition, while a total of 1,400 patients had been discharged from hospitals after recovery with no deaths reported, it added.

Also on Tuesday, 58 people were discharged from hospitals after recovery, while the number of severe cases stood at 26. A total of 77,911 people had been discharged from hospitals after recovery as of Tuesday midnight.

With another three new suspected cases reported Tuesday, a total of five people, all inbound arrivals, are still suspected of being infected with the virus, it added.

Health authorities said that 6,973 close contacts were still under medical observation. On Tuesday, 517 people were discharged from medical observation.

The Chinese mainland also reported 20 new asymptomatic cases on Tuesday, along with 64 discharged from medical observation. So far, a total of 903 asymptomatic patients infected with the virus are still under medical observation, according to the commission.

By the end of Tuesday, 1,040 confirmed cases including four deaths had been reported in Hong Kong, 45 confirmed cases in Macao, and 438 in Taiwan including six deaths. And 920 patients in Hong Kong, 39 in Macao and 334 in Taiwan have been discharged from hospitals after recovery.
