BERLIN - BMW delivered a total of 2,520,307 BMW, Mini and Rolls-Royce vehicles to customers worldwide in 2019 which was an increase of 1.2 percent year-on-year, the German car manufacturer announced on Friday.

"Thanks to our major model offensive, we were once again able to increase our sales in 2019 and achieve another new all-time high," said Pieter Nota, member of the board of management of BMW AG responsible for customer, brands and sales.

BMW reported its ninth consecutive record year in 2019, according to the Munich-based car company. On Thursday, German car manufacturer Mercedes-Benz announced the highest annual sales volume in the company's history for 2019 and also recorded the ninth consecutive growth year.

The BMW brand alone reported a new all-time high 2019, with a total of 2,168,516 vehicle deliveries worldwide which was an increase of 2 percent. The new and revised BMW X models made a "significant contribution to this positive development", BMW noted.

In China, the German car maker recorded the "best-ever sales result" since entering the market in 1994. BMW delivered a total of 723,680 BMW and Mini vehicles to customers in China in 2019, an increase of 13.1 percent.

Total BMW X family sales grew by over 50 percent in China, enhancing its leading position in the premium Sport Activity Vehicle (SAV) market. Most popular among Chinese consumers were the X1, X3, X5, X6, and 5 Series models, according to BMW.

The German car maker also reported its "highest-ever sales" in the United States in 2019 where BMW grew sales by 1.8 percent and delivered 360,918 BMW and Mini vehicles sold.

In Europe, total BMW and Mini sales were slightly lower than the previous year, reflecting the political and economic uncertainty in a number of European markets, according to BMW.

BMW achieved strong sales in its domestic market of Germany and grew sales by 3.8 percent, delivering 331,370 vehicles to customers.

According to BMW, by the end of 2019, BMW already had half a million electrified vehicles worldwide on the road. The German car maker is planning to expand its range of electrified vehicles to 25 models by 2023 with more than half of them fully electric.

"I am confident we will be able to maintain our successful course and sustain our profitable growth. We are targeting a slight sales increase overall for the BMW Group in 2020," said Nota.
