30 candidates to run for IOC Athletes' Commission election
A total of 30 athletes will run for the four positions of the Athletes' Commission of the International Olympic Committee (IOC).
The IOC executive board has approved the list of candidates at its three-day meeting here and the election will take place next year during the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games.
The poll will be open from July 14 (the day the Olympic Village opens) to Aug 4 2020 as all athletes competing at Tokyo 2020 will be able to vote.
The athletes, from 19 summer sports, are nominated by their respective nation Olympic Committees (NOCs) together with their NOC Athletes' Commissions.
The Athletes' Commission is composed of a maximum of 23 members (12 members directly elected by their peers and a maximum of 11 appointed), who serve a term of eight years. The vote is held at every Olympic Games, with four members elected at each Summer Games, and two at each Winter Games.
