Hong Kong will always be an inseparable part of China

China resumed its exercise of sovereignty over Hong Kong on July 1, 1997. Twenty-two years have passed. Hong Kong has not only freed itself from colonizers' oppression but also witnessed long-term prosperity and development. Under the support of the central government, Hong Kong is sharing the dividends of reform and opening-up and co-shouldering the responsibilities for the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation with the Chinese mainland.

No one would ever forget the hardships modern China has gone through. Western powers battered China's door with warships and cannons, forcing the Qing-dynasty (1644-1911) rulers to cede its territory and pay unreasonable indemnities. Hong Kong was wantonly bullied at that time. This deep sorrow has cultivated China's national spirit of resilience: In all circumstances, Hong Kong is always an inseparable part of China.

Some Western politicians, especially those from the United States, cannot accept China's rise. Such a mentality has contributed to their irrational Beijing policy. But whether armed aggression or sanctions, Western policy against New China has repeatedly failed.

In modern times, the West has exerted every possible means to stifle China from growing. It strained every nerve to stir up trouble in Hong Kong with a malicious intention to contain China.

But whatever happens, Hong Kong is always a special administrative region of the People's Republic of China. It will never challenge or tolerate any challenge to the "One Country, Two Systems" principle and will never be separate from China. The Hong Kong society will become more mature and rational after going through all this turmoil. Western politicians' calculations will end in vain.

No country would tolerate any violence under the name of democracy. Responsible governments will shoulder their due obligations. No matter how the situation evolves, one thing is for sure: Hong Kong is a part of China and a special administrative region of the country. Any attempt to stir up trouble and jeopardize the stability and prosperity in Hong Kong is doomed to fail. Attempts to use Hong Kong to challenge China's territorial integrity will never succeed.
