Japan's emperor's enthronement ceremony

The enthronement ceremony of Japan's emperor Naruhito will be held on Oct 22, giving possibly 550,000 prisoners amnesties. More than 190 countries and organizations will attend the ceremony and banquet.

Amnesty is one of symbolic national acts by the Emperor suggested and approved by the cabinet, and is given during the time of joyous occasions and funeral arrangements. It has been 26 years since the last amnesties were given.

The Japanese government is also making arrangements to possibly postpone the enthronement parade because of the need to focus on dealing with the damage caused by Typhoon Hagibis which ripped through the country last weekend, leaving more than 70 people dead as well as extensive damage.

Chinese Vice-President Wang Qishan will attend the ceremony and pay a visit to Japan.

Emperor Naruhito ascended the throne on May 1.
