Bastille Day celebrations

Bastille Day is the common name given in English-speaking countries to the national day of France, which is celebrated on July 14 each year. It is celebrated to commemorate the nation's motto of liberty, equality and fraternity. The day is celebrated with fireworks and large parades all across France.

The French national day is the anniversary of the storming of the Bastille on July 14, 1789, a turning point of the French Revolution, as well as the Fete de la Federation, which celebrates the unity of the French people on July 14, 1790.

The most notable parade that takes place is the large military parade that occurs in the nation's capital, Paris, involving over 4,000 soldiers, 200 vehicles and 100 aircraft.

Observing the holiday isn't limited to France. It also is celebrated in a number of nations, like South Africa, Canada, India and in parts of the US.
