In the West, generally there is no special day to visit relatives’ tombs. There is often nowadays no tomb. Most funerals are cremations and the ashes are handed over in an urn. In a cemetery the ashes can be scattered in a garden of remembrance and an entry made in a book of records. That record is often the only enduring element of the deceased’s life. An obituary is written and published in a local paper. Of course for famous people they appear in national newspapers. Some folks read the obituary column daily.
