China Daily launched a global edition on Jan 2, presenting an incisive, panoramic picture of China.

Combining the flagship edition on the Chinese mainland with overseas dailies and weeklies published in the United States, Europe, Asia and Africa, China Daily Global Edition has extensive and analytical coverage of what happens in every corner of the world with a Chinese perspective.

The 16-page broadsheet offers more news analysis, financial and economic news, in-depth features and opinion pieces.

China Daily Global Edition, with a new, eye-catching format, arresting photos, quality cartoons and easy-to-understand graphics, is published on weekdays.

Here are some comments of China Daily Global Edition from international experts and scholars.

Professor Julian Beer, deputy vice-chancellor at Birmingham City University

The launch of China Daily’s new global edition comes at an important time for China’s growing economic and cultural ties with countries around the world.

“As these collaborations increase, a mutual understanding of the political, economic and social positions of each country will be of the utmost importance to developing thriving relationships and this new publication will help take important steps toward this.

“For businesses in the UK, China is already an important partner and will be a market which could be increasingly significant as we move towards Brexit, so the launch of China Daily’s global edition is very welcome.

Jim O'Neill, chairman of Chatham House who coined the term "BRIC"

My reaction is that, (China Daily's launch of a unified new international edition) is a good idea, as in the modern interconnected world, it is not logical to have editions just for different non China regions, unless you are really trying to compete with local national new media outlets, such as the Times of London, etc. so it is a wise decision.

As for the comments from the Foreign Minister, Wang Yi, obviously it is very good news to have his blessing and comments. In my view, China continuing to see its consumer grow is an extremely crucial aspect of a better world economy.

Stephen Perry, chairman of the 48 Group Club

I think (China Daily's launch of the new international edition) is going the right way as understanding China is really a permanent task.

And it takes many forms. So having topical news as the focus seems right. I did not know there was almost a certainty that there were no drones - so that topical insight makes the article.

Wang Yi’s comment is welcome and I would like to see a two-page interview with state councilors and even politburo members say every year.

Martin Albrow, international sociologist, author of China's Role in a Shared Human Future

First of all, many congratulations to China Daily and all staff members who worked on the launch of the new global edition. I have been gripped as always by its hugely varied world coverage.

As a British reader naturally the British related stories are attractive, but then I ask myself, would they appear in editions in Germany, Brazil or Russia? In other words just how global is this international edition, and is it customized for different national readerships? Of course I am interested in Chinese opinion on my own country but I do not expect it to be foregrounded in an international edition. Then again 'international' is different from 'global'. International gathers stories from all over the world, of course from a Chinese perspective. So on balance, still work to be done to find the global, but as a nationally customized international edition then certainly you will fit very well alongside the major global newspapers, the New York Times and the Financial Times.

Statements by your leaders always are of great significance for the rest of the world simply because you hold your leaders in great respect and therefore what they say has a greater traction within China than such statements by leaders in other countries. I am impressed by councilor Wang Yi's explicit mention of uncertainties in the world order and of the 'reshaping of societies'. It gives me confidence that the Chinese leadership is not only focused on global changes, but also happy to tell the rest of the world how China is responding. Publishing leaders' speeches will ensure that China Daily will be a major reference source for the rest of the world.
