"It's amazing. It's very big. I'm very happy to be here, and we are very proud L'Oreal to be part of this big event," Johan Aubert, director of Methods and Technics of Innovation in L'Oreal R&I, said at the first China International Import Expo held in Shanghai on Monday.

Aubert's team has developed a system that can be based on the people's skin color to create customized liquid foundation, and the system is on display at the CIIE.

"We have tested our system on Chinese women, and it works very well on any type of skin," Aubert said.

China is L'Oreal's second-biggest overseas market, and the company created a research and innovation center to develop products for Chinese market in Shanghai's Pudong 13 years ago.

Aubert first came to China four years ago, and since then has been coming once a year. He said he has seen some changes in China in the past four years, for example Chinese women are coloring their hair more than four years ago, which he thinks is very nice.

"I'm really impressed by the size, the number of exhibitors at the CIIE," Aubert said, adding what struck him much more than the hair coloration was the level of connectivity and digitalization of people in daily life. "Here people can do everything with the smartphone," Aubert said.
