A 20-year-old man named Walter Carr with an unrivaled work ethic has inspired other people after walking 20 miles for his first day at a new job, including the company's CEO, who surprised him with a car as a gift.

Walter Carr was ready to start his new job as a mover with Bellhops moving company in Alabama when he found that his car broke down before the work began. In order to not be late on the first day, Carr decided to walk to work the night before.

"I sat there and I thought, 'How can I get to my job? What streets would I walk through? How long would it take me to get there?'" Carr told The Washington Post. When he determined it would take roughly seven hours to arrive on time, he took an early evening nap, so that he could start the voyage in a few hours.

He arrived at Pelham by 4 am, when he encountered four police officers who were in awe when they learned of the journey the young man had made.

Cops took Carr to Whataburger, where they bought him breakfast and lunch, and then dropped him off at a church before saying they would be back to drive him to his job in time.

Upon their return, officers found Carr had already set out again, so they again picked him up and dropped him off at the home of Jenny and Chris Lamey. When Walter got there, it was just 6:30 am.

When Jenny heard the experience of Carr, she offered to let him rest before the other crew members came, but Carr rejected this and started to work. Seeing that, Jenny was very impressed and she posted a long passage on her Twitter account.

Jenny posted a long passage on her Twitter account.

It was evident Carr made an impression on everyone he met during his journey to work, as his story spread throughout the community and beyond.

"Proud to have encountered this young man," Pelham police said. "He certainly made an impact on us!" they posted on Facebook, along with a #belikewalter hashtag.

After learning about his dedication and determination to get to work, Bellhops CEO Luke Marklin called Carr to thank him and said he'd like to meet.

Marklin surprised the industrious young man by handing him the keys to the CEO's own 2014 Ford Escape SUV. Carr was visibly stunned and speechless.

Lamey also created a GoFundMe account for Carr, which by Wednesday had raised more than $50,000.
