An official survey on youngsters' views on love affairs was recently released, which shows that about 70 percent of respondents would rather wait until their true love appears. China Youth Daily comments:

Their lack of a positive attitude is one of the three main causes of many youngsters staying single. According to the survey, many said they hoped to find true love. If true love does not appear, they'd rather wait instead of finding someone via a quick match.

That implies youngsters seek those who share the rhythm of their souls. Or, in simple words, they hope to find a "soul mate", a concept that has multiple complicated meanings for individuals and society alike.

People should not be blamed for holding such an idea, because shared spiritual pursuits should be one of the foundations for a happy family. Especially, now those born in the 1990s, widely considered to have strong personalities, have reached the age for marriage. It is natural for them to pursue their "soul mates".

The problem is, some young people have rather narrow definitions of "soul mates". But these ideas are often very extreme. For example, some young people, after their blind date, only because the other side wears the shirt that they do not like, or the shoes are not the brand they like, decide that they have different views and give up the opportunity for further contact. In this way, many youngsters that could have become couples lost the chance.

Worse, some youngsters even fear marriage and hold a negative view toward it. Some of them suffered from past love affairs, some were influenced by negative viewpoints online. They refrain from marrying claiming they are "waiting for a soul mate". With too many such voices grouped together, a negative effect might be cast upon more young people, discouraging them from seeking love via channels such as blind dates.

There is no absolute rule for love. It is time for the youngsters who "wait for soul mates" to act more positively and give themselves more opportunities. Do not act negatively-that's the correct attitude in "waiting for a soul mate".
