HARARE - Former Zimbabwean President Robert Mugabe is expected to give oral evidence on Wednesday before a parliamentary committee investigating alleged leakages of diamond revenue from the Chiadzwa minefields.

Mugabe said in February 2016 that the country could have lost as much as $15 billion through diamond revenue leakages.

A letter has been written to Mugabe during the past week inviting him to appear before the Parliamentary Committee on Mines and Energy, but his office has not yet confirmed his attendance, said Temba Mliswa, chairperson of the portfolio committee, on Tuesday.

"The most important thing is that we have discharged our obligation. We have summoned him," he told the media.

He said the inquiry is not a witch hunt but an attempt to realize the truth about the utilization of the country's resources.

Several serving and former cabinet ministers, security chiefs and mining officials have since appeared before the committee on the same matter.
