Former Spain coach Antonio appointed as consultant to Chinese basketball club
CHANGCHUN, China - Juan Antonio, former national coach for Spain men's basketball team, has been hired as consultant for Jilin Northeast Tigers, the Chinese club said here on Monday.
Born in 1966, Antonio was the key member of the Spanish national team, featuring in four European Championships, two World Championships and one Olympic Games.
Antonio started his coaching career in 2004, and served for Spain's U19 and U20 men's basketball. From 2012 to 2014, he took the helm of the Spanish national team, leading it competing in the 2013 European Championships in Slovenia and the 2014 World Championships in Spain.
According to the Chinese club, Antonio has already been involved in the training of its team members.
Currently, Jilin has two wins against seven losses to rank 18th in the Chinese Basketball Association (CBA) 20-team league.
