Tickets price for Asian Games higher than Beijing Olympics

Ticket prices for the opening and closing ceremonies fo the 16th Asian Games in Guangzhou will range from 1,600 yuan ($234) to 6,800 yuan ($995). That is higher than the most expensive tickets for the 2008 Beijing Olymipcs opening and closing ceremonies, which cost 5,000 yuan ($732).

Two million tickets for the events themselves will be available, and the organizers of the games have announced that 87 percent of all tickets will cost between $1.50 and $58.

Yuan Yue, Deputy Director of the Marketing Department of the Guangzhou Asian Games Organizing Committee (GAGOC), said the Asian Games Ticket Pricing Program was formulated based on extensive market research and statistical analysis; a comparison of ticket prices at the previous Olympic Games, Asian Games and other major international sporting events; and consideration of local consumption levels and purchasing power.

GAGOC will give free tickets to students and youth athletes as a part of an educational initiative to further the development of the Olympic Movement among young people.

GAGOC has also set up a hotline for ticketing enquiries in Mandarin, Cantonese and English.
